Nails of the Day: March 3, 2011

Today I really wanted to try out a nail polish I bought recently. I heard about the new Wet n Wild polishes about a month ago, and immediately picked out some favourites. Of course, as always, I assumed we'd never get them in Canada, and put it on my list of stuff I wanted but would never have. Much to my surprise, the cosmetic displays at my local Wal-Mart have been recently replenished and updated, including the Maybelline Fit Me line (foundation review to come soon) and the Physician's Formula Happy Booster line (blush review to come soon). A;so included in this update was the Wet n Wild section. While they didn't get in the 8-pan palettes, they did get the polishes. I picked up one bottle of Silvivor, a silver nail polish, and the last two bottles of Party of Five Glitters, a mix of 5 different colours and sizes of glitter (blue, silver, red, green and fuschia). I decided to pair it with another polish I'd never tried before, an ELF polish called Royal Purple.

I started by applying 3 thin coats of Royal Purple, then topped it with a thin coat of Orly Sec'n Dry. Over that, I put a layer of Party of Five Glitters, applying it in a dabbing motion where the glitter was sparse. I applied one coat of Seche Vite, cleaned it up with an angled brush and some acetone, and then another coat of SV.

Final Verdict: The glitter wasn't as dense as I'd like (I love the OPI glitters like Teenage Dream), and the clear base of the polish was about as thick as my SV, meaning it was almost impossible to get a thin coat while still getting the amount of glitter flecks I desired. However, it was also only $2.84, so for the price, I do think it's a really nice glitter topcoat for an accent nail. If you can still find this, and if you don't mind a little extra work to place the glitter where you want it, I'd definitely pick it up. It's gorgeous.
