Just a little info..

An awesome nail blogger I found through SayAnythingBrooke's blogtv is running her one year blogiversary contest. Her name is Kayla, and she runs the blog Nails by Kayla Shevonne. I've only been following her blog for a few weeks, but I've already seen some amazing and very well described nail tutorials, and some equally impressive swatch comparisons. If you're a nail polish junkie like I am, then you have to check her out.

Now, onto the giveaway. I'm a little late to the party, so I'm going to run quickly over the details, but you can find everything including the entry form on her blog here. Basically, she's been blogging for a year, and to celebrate she's giving away two Deborah Lippmann polishes from the Spring 2011 collection. The polishes have been donated by Made You Blush, a Canadian company with a store in my hometown. It gives us girls who want things like Amazing Cosmetics concealer and Too Faced Shadow Insurance a place to get it. MYB donated the colours Naked and Glitter in the Air, which can be found swatched here on Kayla's blog.

I am very excited to see who wins this giveaway, and to see more of Kayla's posts. Congratulations, Kayla, and keep up the awesome blogging. :)

Candles by Victoria Haul: Fruity Scents.

I recently made a huge Candles by Victoria order. It was my first ever order from her, and I'm very pleased. Because I am Canadian, my order had to be made outside of the website, so I cannot comment on how that whole bit works, I can tell you that her customer service skills are excellent. We had awesome communication, and she made sure that I was okay with everything before I sent her my money. I will not hesitate to order again, and I urge you all to do the same. I ordered a bunch of her scent shots, because I don't like burning candles because of the slight fire hazard, and I have 10 to show you today. These are all classified as "Fruity" scents, and I completely understand why.

These are in alphabetical order. Also, I received this package yesterday, and I have not been able to burn them yet, so I will do a separate review post when I get the chance.

Banana ~ Straight, wonderful, yummy banana. This scent is outstanding and one that you will keep you coming back for more.
When I first open Banana, I'm hit with the smell of the artificial banana flavouring doctors put in children's medicine. After that initial smell wears off, I'm left with a more mellow, softer banana scent, with a hint of sweetness, that reminds me of marshmallow banana candies. I enjoy this one.

Fuzzy Navel ~ Peach and Orange with a hint of fizz.
I'd like to know how she does this one. I definitely smell the peach and the orange. It actually smells quite a bit like Five Alive, only the Peach version of it, which makes sense. I can also smell the fizz. I don't know how that happens, maybe I'm smelling a hint of a 7UP type scent, but it's awesome. This one is at the top of my list to burn for the fruity scents.

Honeydew Pear ~ This is one mouthwatering fragrance, perfect summer time scent!
This scent is a much lighter fruity scent compared to the other two. I can smell the honeydew, with a small hint of the pear, and I like it. It's simple and straight to the point, and it really would make an awesome summer scent. I want to find something similar in a body spray now.

Mango Peach Salsa ~ Luscious tones of fruit are blended with warm spicy accents in this tempting creation. Bright citrus notes of tangerine balanced with fresh cherry for the tangy top note. A heart of ripe peach mingles with strawberry, as hints of spice add delightful texture to the blend. Floral undertones are enveloped in a clean musk base to complete the fruit sensation.
Well, isn't that a mouthful. When I smell this, I can smell quite a few different things. I'm picking up on the citrus and the cherries and strawberries, and I'm guessing the lightness of it all is the floral hints. I'm also getting hints of the spice, which make it a heavier scent as well. I do like this one, but I would not burn it in a small room, as I think it would be a bit overpowering.

Pearberry Fun ~ A Bath & Body dupe ™ This Pearberry is to die for!
I'm not so much a fan of this one. I'd like it a lot more if it was straight pear, like the top notes I'm getting, but it's got a musky undertone and I'm not so much a fan. I've never smelled the B&BW Pearberry scent, so I can't compare it, but I know I will not be repurchasing.

Pineapple Punch ~ A strong very aromatic, straight pineapple. This one makes my mouth water and wish I was sitting on the beach in Hawaii drinking a fancy umbrella drink!!
I definitely smell the pineapple, but I'm also getting some tropical scents. To me, this smells like the Tropical flavoured Trident White gum. I'm not one for pineapple, but this one does smell pretty good.

Pink Grapefruit ~ An invigorating fragrance that will wake up your senses. Nothing fake about this fragrance. You will love it!!
This one smells like grapefruit through and through. There isn't really much else to say about it.

Pomegranate & Apple ~ A perfect summertime treat. This is an amazing blend of sweet pomegranate with a mix of juicey apple. This is one fresh summer fragrance.
I love this one. I'm getting a lot of the apple scent, and as apple is one of my favourite scents, this one smells really good. I've never smelled a pomegranate, so I can't say if I can pick it out, but I can smell something other than the apple that makes it just a little bit more summer and less fall. This will be second on my list, after Fuzzy Navel.

Tangerine ~ Tangerine is not listed on the CBV website.
I have no description to go by for the smell of this, but I'm assuming it's meant to just be straight tangerine, which it is. It smells like an orange sucker, only not quite so sugary. I like this one and I think it would be a nice kitchen scent.

Watermelon ~ Imagine diving into a cool watermelon slice on a hot summer's day! This is a true, fresh watermelon fragrance with an awesome scent throw!
Watermelon smells to me just like a big bowl of watermelon candy. It's too strong for me to think of fresh watermelon, and a bit too sweet. I like it, it's just not a real watermelon smell.

Update Post (I promise to keep it short)

In case you haven't noticed, I haven't posted in forever. Life has just been pretty hectic, and I haven't had the time to do any blogging or youtube videos. I'm in the middle of moving back to my Dads, and so I don't really have any of my makeup with me, but I will be getting back into it as soon as we get my room all set up.

Thanks, Sarah. <3

Nails of the Day: March 3, 2011

Today I really wanted to try out a nail polish I bought recently. I heard about the new Wet n Wild polishes about a month ago, and immediately picked out some favourites. Of course, as always, I assumed we'd never get them in Canada, and put it on my list of stuff I wanted but would never have. Much to my surprise, the cosmetic displays at my local Wal-Mart have been recently replenished and updated, including the Maybelline Fit Me line (foundation review to come soon) and the Physician's Formula Happy Booster line (blush review to come soon). A;so included in this update was the Wet n Wild section. While they didn't get in the 8-pan palettes, they did get the polishes. I picked up one bottle of Silvivor, a silver nail polish, and the last two bottles of Party of Five Glitters, a mix of 5 different colours and sizes of glitter (blue, silver, red, green and fuschia). I decided to pair it with another polish I'd never tried before, an ELF polish called Royal Purple.

I started by applying 3 thin coats of Royal Purple, then topped it with a thin coat of Orly Sec'n Dry. Over that, I put a layer of Party of Five Glitters, applying it in a dabbing motion where the glitter was sparse. I applied one coat of Seche Vite, cleaned it up with an angled brush and some acetone, and then another coat of SV.

Final Verdict: The glitter wasn't as dense as I'd like (I love the OPI glitters like Teenage Dream), and the clear base of the polish was about as thick as my SV, meaning it was almost impossible to get a thin coat while still getting the amount of glitter flecks I desired. However, it was also only $2.84, so for the price, I do think it's a really nice glitter topcoat for an accent nail. If you can still find this, and if you don't mind a little extra work to place the glitter where you want it, I'd definitely pick it up. It's gorgeous.
